Privacy Policy for Deaf Caption

Last Updated: June 20, 2026

Introduction

Deaf Caption ("the App") is developed and operated by Jason Schwebke ("Developer," "we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles information when you use the App on iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices.

Deaf Caption is designed to help bridge communication between deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing individuals through on-device speech-to-text captioning and text-to-speech functionality.

By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

Information We Collect

No Personal Information Collected

Deaf Caption does not collect, store, transmit, sell, rent, or share any personal information.

The App does not require user registration, account creation, or login.

The App does not collect:

  • Names
  • Email addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • Physical addresses
  • Device identifiers
  • Advertising identifiers
  • Usage analytics
  • Location information
  • Contact information
  • Payment information
  • User-generated content
  • Audio recordings
  • Video recordings

On-Device Processing

Deaf Caption performs its speech recognition and captioning functionality entirely on the user's device using Apple-provided technologies.

Audio captured by the microphone is processed locally on your device to generate captions. The Developer does not receive, store, or access microphone data, transcripts, or any other content generated by the App.

Any text entered by users for text-to-speech functionality is processed locally on the device and is not transmitted to the Developer.

Permissions Used by the App

To provide its functionality, Deaf Caption may request access to:

  • Microphone
Used to capture audio for live captioning and speech recognition.
  • Speech Recognition
Used to convert spoken language into text captions.
  • Camera
Used for features that require camera access within the App. Camera data is processed locally on the device and is not collected or transmitted to the Developer.
  • Audio Playback
Used to provide text-to-speech functionality and other audio-related features.

These permissions are used solely to provide App functionality and are not used for tracking, analytics, advertising, or data collection.

In-App Purchases and Subscriptions

Deaf Caption offers optional in-app purchases and subscriptions through Apple's App Store using StoreKit.

Available purchase types may include:

  • One-time purchases
  • Auto-renewable subscriptions
  • Non-consumable purchases

Examples of premium features may include:

  • Additional accessibility enhancements

Payment transactions are processed entirely by Apple. The Developer does not collect, process, or store payment card information.

Information related to purchases is managed according to Apple's privacy practices and App Store policies.

Data Sharing

Because Deaf Caption does not collect user data, no user information is sold, rented, shared, disclosed, or transferred to:

  • Advertisers
  • Marketing partners
  • Analytics providers
  • Data brokers
  • Other third parties

Information may only be disclosed if required by applicable law, regulation, court order, or legal process.

Third-Party Services

Deaf Caption does not use third-party analytics, advertising networks, cloud services, external APIs, or tracking technologies.

The App is built using Apple's native frameworks and SDKs.

Advertising

Deaf Caption does not display advertisements.

The App does not use:

  • Advertising identifiers
  • Behavioral advertising
  • Personalized advertising
  • App Tracking Transparency (ATT) tracking

Children's Privacy

Deaf Caption is intended for users of all ages, including members of the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.

The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children or adults because no personal information is collected through the App.

Data Retention

Because Deaf Caption does not collect or store user data, there is no user data retained by the Developer.

Any information generated during use of the App remains on the user's device unless the user chooses to export or share it using device-provided features.

Security

Because the App does not transmit or store user information on Developer-controlled systems, user data remains under the control of the device owner.

Users are encouraged to maintain the security of their devices through passcodes, biometric authentication, and current operating system updates.

International Users

The App is currently intended for distribution in the United States and Canada.

Because Deaf Caption processes information locally on the user's device and does not transmit personal information to the Developer, cross-border transfers of personal information do not occur through the App.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App, legal requirements, or business practices.

Any updates will be posted on the App's website, and the "Last Updated" date will be revised accordingly.
